Flinders Street Ballroom
If you’re in the city in July, then you absolutely must make your way to Flinders Street Ballroom, above the station. It’s a former ballroom that was last used as a theatre in the 80s but has fallen into disrepair now. Tours are really rare but July is the most likely month of the year for them to take place – so keep your ears to the ground.
Swim at Pound Bend
If you want a dip in the Yarra River, make your way to Pound Bend in Warrandyte, where you’ll find one of the best places to go swimming in the whole city. The river spreads out into a big calm pool – but, of course, you’ll find yourself sharing it with everyone when the weather is nice.
Visit the Japanese bath house
Head off to Collingwood and you’ll find the Japanese Bathhouse, which has been open since 1999 but recently enjoyed a bit of a refurb. Everything is supplied for you, from body scrubbers to hair gel, with men and women able to enjoy their own bathing areas. What better way to get ready for a night out than a long soak in the tub followed by a sauna? Bliss!
Melbourne Zoo
This zoo is actually the oldest to be found in the whole of Australia, open since 1861. It’s one of the most popular attractions in the city and the gardens are really pretty, so it’s a great day out for all the family.
Siglo
Fancy a cocktail in the sun? Then Siglo is the best choice – as many a local will tell you! The sun terrace is unrivalled and you’ll get some incredible views over St Patrick’s Cathedral and Parliament, but maybe avoid it on a Friday night if you don’t want to get caught up with all the people having a beer after work.
Hosier Lane
If you want to go on a street art tour while in the city, head to Hosier Lane which is famous for its incredible graffiti. Make sure you have your camera at the ready!
