Robben Island
If gaining a bit of historical perspective is what you’re after, head to Robben Island as soon as you can. The site was used as a jail for predominantly political prisoners and it was here that former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.
Catch the cable car
You absolutely have to scale the dizzying heights of Table Mountain and by far the easiest way of doing so is by catching a cable car up to the top. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can even abseil your way back down again.
Have a beer In Long Street

Give a Gatsby a go
When you find yourself a bit peckish, make sure you fill up at least once on a Gatsby, a super loaf that comes stuffed with chips and all sorts of other delicious fillings like steak and atchar. Delicious!
Hike up Lion’s Head
No doubt you’re familiar with the site of the mountain slope in Cape Town that resembles a crouching lion. On a clear day, you can get no better views of the local area than from the top of the Head itself and the walk is a truly beautiful one, so make sure you bring sturdy boots with you.
See the Boulder’s Beach penguins
For something a little different, make your way to Boulder’s Beach where you can find a colony of penguins that were settled there way back in 1982. If you go down the boardwalk at Foxy Beach you’ll get up close and personal with the birds – but don’t try and disturb or touch them. And remember that they can bite!
