5 Budget-Friendly Ideas For Cheap Auckland Holidays

New Zealand is one of those places that’s on pretty much everyone’s bucket list and it’s really not hard to see why, even if you haven’t been to this wonderful part of the world as yet. It’s a stunning country with something for everyone so if you have booked Auckland cheap holidays, then you’re in for a truly amazing time.

If you’ve got a tight budget to stick to, then make sure you plan your trip well so you can see and do everything you want to without having to splash the cash too much. Here are some of our top picks of budget-friendly sights and sounds to see in Auckland this year.

1. A coastal walk

Strap your hiking boots on and get out and about in the stunning countryside. It’s a really great way of seeing Auckland if you’ve never been here before and you can do a coast to coast walk that takes you near the Mt Eden volcanic cones and One Tree Hill, which will give you some of the best views of the city around.

2. Silo Cinema

What’s better than a free outdoor cinema? Silo is a must-do if you’re on an Auckland holiday in the summer months. Head there on a Friday and get there in plenty of time for screenings starting at 21:00 so you can get a top spot near the Silo. There’s also a bustling Food Space with markets and food trucks, so don’t forget your purse. You’ve got to eat – and get souvenirs, after all!

3. Go to the beach

During the summer, Mission Bay is the most popular beach for visitors and locals alike – and the best bit is that it’s completely free! Make your way there for a dip in the beautiful ocean, followed by a relax on the sand with a frozen yoghurt. It’s safe to swim all year round and you’ll get an amazing view of Rangitoto Island. What could be better? Make sure you take time out to check out the famous Trevor Davis Memorial Fountain on Selwyn Reserve as well.

4. Visit Western Springs Park

Yes, you can shell out for The Auckland Zoo but if you want to see wildlife on the cheap, then it’s got to be Western Springs Park hands down. This wildlife sanctuary surrounds a natural spring-fed lake, a refuge for the native orea (a type of eel). These orea are actually really tame so you can tempt them with some bread, much like you would a duck!

5. Check out the Domain

The Domain (developed around the cone of an old volcano) is actually the oldest park in Auckland and certainly worth a visit for this fact alone. There are duck ponds, formal gardens, big green open spaces and the Wintergarden which is made up of two beautiful glasshouses with all sorts of tropical plants inside.
